What Valentine’s Day Means To Me

To most people Valentine’s Day is a day for lovers to proclaim their love for each other with expensive gifts and fancy dinners. To me, February 14th is not just for lovers. It’s a day for celebrating all the love I am fortunate enough to have in my life. It doesn’t matter who the source of that love is – it could be an auntie, a cousin, my brothers, my sisters, my lover, my best friend, my neighbor or my child. And I don’t need personalized gifts or even Valentine’s Day cards to know that I’m loved although they sure are appreciated :) .

Last year was my little dude’s first year in school and he surprised me with a handmade Valentine’s Day card. It had the sweetest words and it actually brought a few tears to my eye. This year, I’m sitting on pins and needles hoping for a repeat “surprise”. That card made my day. The only other card he gave me that made me cry even harder than that one is the Mother’s day card that was also unexpected. Both cards made me want to send thank you cards to his teachers but unfortunately I got lazy. This year however, my little dude and I are going to make a Valentine’s Day card for his teacher. She does a good job with him and she could use a little love her way come February 14th…even if it’s from a student and his mommy.
